The Nest

The Nest is a hidden gem in Woodland Hills that has over 40 years of history. It has been home to projects such as High School Musical (the original and new TV series), Breakfast Club, Only Murders In The Building, Avril Lavigne, Elton John, Paul Anka, and many more. Designed by world renowned studio acoustician Bruce Black and Robert Irving, The Nest aims to redefine recording studios. Instead of a barren dark room, each studio here aims to inspire creativity through nature. Each of the three studios have a unique vibe along with outside areas for writing or taking a break. For writing camps, The Nest can accommodate up to 6 separate studios and three bedrooms for overnight stays. 

Studio A (The Cave)

Studio A (The Cave), meticulously crafted by renowned acoustician Bruce Black, is not just a recording space; it’s a sanctuary for artistic expression. Every aspect of this room was designed and engineered to foster creativity and elevate sound quality to unparalleled heights. Immerse yourself in an environment where every note, every beat, resonates with clarity and precision, empowering musicians to unleash their true potential and create unforgettable sonic masterpieces.

Studio A has some iconic pieces of vintage gear along with more modern pieces including a SSL Matrix board, Apollo 16, PMC IB1s, Yamaha NS10’s and Adams A7Vs. Preamps include, Avalon 737, UA 4-710, WA 273, Neve 1084’s, GML 8304, and Chandler TG-2500’s. For compressors, there are the 1176 Blue Strip compressor, LA-3a’s, SSL Comp, and DBX 560a’s. Synths include a Prophet-6, DX-7, Kurzweil 2500, Roland XV05050, Roland Jv2080, and Roland Super JV.

Studio B (The Jurassic Room)

The Live Room

Studio B (The Jurassic Room), is a one of a kind space that looks out to a waterfall and open grass area transporting you into a different world. Also designed by Bruce Black as a haven for creative exploration, this studio combines cutting-edge technology with the primal allure of nature. Just as dinosaurs roamed freely in their prehistoric landscape, musicians and artists here are encouraged to let their creativity roam wild. Immerse yourself in the Jurassic Room, where every recording session becomes an adventure, and every note echoes through time like a thunderous dinosaur roar.

The Live Room at The Nest is a large space can accommodate large sessions of up to 17 musicians. This space features a C7 Yamaha piano, Ludwig drum set, and an array of hand percussion including tablas. Many projects including the Emmy nominated show “Only Murders in the Building”, Tower of Power and David Foster have come here for the iconic natural reverb and sound of the room. With 24 available inputs, this room is a playground for creative collaboration between musicians, producers, and artists keeping the spirit of real live instrumentation alive in a digital world.

Studio C (The Oasis)

Step into Studio C, fondly known as The Oasis. Throughout the day, natural light streams through the windows overlooking lush greenery and two majestic palm trees. This tranquil space features a Baldwin upright piano, A Neve 1272, WA 412, UA 710, and Genelec 1032 speakers. Just outside, a middle eastern themed gazebo adorned with items imported from Morocco, invites artists to connect with nature and find new inspiration. Studio C is more than a room; it's a creative escape where musicians can harmonize with the beauty of their surroundings.

Vocal Booth

The Vocal Booth at The Nest is a floating room that can be accessed from any of the three studios. There is also a workstation that can be used as a separate studio for writing camps.

Amenities

Connecting with nature is an important part of The Nest. Many songs have been written by the fire pit late at night or getting over writers block next to the waterfall and pond. There is also a putting green, ping pong, foosball, corn hole, soccer, and spike-ball. If you are feeling brave there is also an ice bath, the perfect way to wake yourself up!
